Laos Travel Guide - Travel to Laos
Travel to Laos - Why visit Laos? Laos, officially the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, is a particularly appealing travel destination for those who are willing to get off the beaten track and experience Southeast Asia as it was 50 years ago, with all the charms (and difficulties) that implies. The main attractions of Laos are Luang Prabang, beautiful mountain and jungle scenery, historical sites and Asian culture.
When to visit Laos? The best time to visit Laos is from November to February when it rains least and isn’t too hot. The rainy season is June-October, bringing much relief from the preceding hot season, but it can also dampen plans for trekking and sightseeing. Peak tourist months are December to February and during August, although there are relatively few travelers at any time.
International Flights to Laos
Laos has three international airports in Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Pakse. Laos used to be off-limits to low-cost airlines, however Air Asia now flies to Vientiane from Kuala Lumpur 3 times a week.
Lodging in Laos
There are many budget and mid-price hotels and guesthouses and some good quality, expensive hotels in Vientiane and Luang Prabang. But lodging options outside the Mekong Valley’s main tourist spots are limited to basic hotels and guesthouses.
