Honolulu International Airport (airport code: HNL), is the main aviation gateway for the Hawaiian Islands. The airport serves as the principal hub of Hawaiian Airlines, the largest Hawaii-based airline. Hawaiian offers flights between the various airports of the Hawaiian Islands and also serve the continental United States, Australia, Samoa, Tahiti and the Philippines. HNL is host to major United States and international flagship commercial carriers with direct routes to American, Asian, and Pacific Rim destinations. The airport is located on Oahu Island about 10km west of downtown Honolulu and 15km west of Waikiki Beach. The Waikiki Express provides shuttle service to hotels in Waikiki every half hour from airport. City buses #19 and #20 also come to the airport once every half-hour, going through Aala Park downtown and on to to Waikiki. You can catch them on the outside second level of the international and domestic departure terminals. Taxis are also available; the ride to Waikiki Beach takes around 20 minutes. Major car rental companies represented at the airport include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and National. Some other car rental companies are located off-site and provide buses to ferry passengers to their offices; it’s worth checking the rental companies’ location before booking.
